Milford Clayton Nelson, 84, a resident of Aurdal Township, rural Fergus Falls, died Thursday, February 21, 2008, at his home. He was born October 10, 1923, near Nashua, Montana, the son of Conrad and Emelia (Eliason) Nelson. His parents homesteaded in Montana in 1915, returning to the family farm in Aurdal Township in 1935, which was homesteaded in 1868 by his great-grandfather, Ingebret Nelson. In 1940 Milford and his parents moved to Dane Prairie Township and later returning to Aurdal in 1950. In 1945 he entered the U.S. Army, returning in 1946 from Occupied Japan. On June 14, 1947 he married Hazel Mortenson at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, Carlisle, Minnesota. The couple had two sons, Bruce and Russell. He was a lifelong dairy farmer. Milford also served 35 years with Sverdrup Mutual Insurance Company as an agent and board director. He was a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church, serving many positions on the board, including president, and the Underwood American Legion. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Hazel, of Fergus Falls; his sons, Bruce K. (Cora) Nelson and Russell C. Nelson all of Fergus Falls; his grandchildren, Crystal Nelson and Brent Nelson; a sister, Imogene Mitchell of Sheridan, Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
