Mildred Stein

Mildred "Millie" Stein, 78, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. Millie was born on March 6, 1929 in Pelican Rapids, the daughter of George and Hannah (Kringen) Sherbrooke. She was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1947. On December 4, 1948, she married Richard "Dick" Stein at Pelican Valley Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. She worked for many years at Norby's Department Store and then worked for the Fergus Falls school system. Millie was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church and at one time was active with LWML, serving as president and in other offices. She was an active PTA member, serving in various offices. Through the years she taught Sunday school and Wednesday School and was Sunday School Superintendent. She also served on the City Children's Welfare Board, was chairman of the Fergus Falls Heart Fund, was an election judge and election chairman for many years and volunteered at Lake Region Hospital. She enjoyed music, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dick Stein; granddaughter, Mallory Ann Tysdal; two brothers, Oren and Irvin Sherbrooke; and one sister, Hazel Stensgard. Survivors include two daughters, Vicky (Daryl) Anderson of West Fargo, Kathy Tysdal of Fergus Falls; son, Rick (Gwen) Stein of Stalker Lake; eight grandchildren, Jana, John, R.J., Cody, Alicia, Izzy, Zackary (Joanna) and Jesse; five great grandchildren, Jordan, Zane, Joshua, Erica and Caleb; five step grandchildren, Anthony, Caitlin, Colin, Darcy and Buffy; five step great-grandchildren, Garrett, Gabrielle, Michelle, Samantha and Hannah; two sisters, Harriet (Gordy) Nelson of Fergus Falls, Ardis Ottoson of Pelican Rapids and one brother, Harold Sherbrooke of Pelican Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a public prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
