Mildred Jeanette Sether, 97, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, July 30, 2012, in Fergus Falls surrounded by her family. She was born December 28, 1914, in Garfield Township of Grundy County, rural Gardner, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Hauge) Eide. The family moved to Norway for a time, and Mildred started school there. They moved back to the states to rural Rothsay, Minnesota, where she resumed her schooling. She was confirmed at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, and their class was the last one in Norwegian. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1933. She then was employed as the secretary for the W.P.A. at the Otter Tail County courthouse. On October 6, 1940, she married Sidney Sether at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, rural Carlisle. They made their home in Oscar Township near Carlisle where they farmed and raised their family. Mildred was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she participated in V.S.P, Bible Study, and WELCA. She served as a 4-H leader, was a member of the Carlisle Homemakers, and volunteered at McKinley Elementary School. She enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening, sewing, and family genealogy. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Sidney, in 1990, two brothers, Ansgar and Edwin Eide, and a son-in-law, Gordon Johnson. Survivors include three daughters: Cynthia Johnson of Battle Lake, Elizabeth Sether of Fargo, and Margaret (Jerry) Rollag of Garfield; grandchildren: Todd and Dacia Johnson, Stephanie and Eric Johnson, Lisa and Al Rezac, Melissa Johnson, and Christopher and Hattie Rollag; 11 great-grandchildren: Rachel, Matthew, Sether, Karsten, Bjorn, Sidney, Franklin, Charlotte, Austin, Grace and Jacob; one sister, Bernice Kvern of Fergus Falls; a brother, John Henry (Beverly) Eide of Moorhead; a sister-in-law, Alfreda Eide of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
