Mildred Nelson

Mildred Louise Nelson, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, December 10, 2009, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born on July 27, 1915, in St. Olaf Township, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Nycklemoe) Tripp. She was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Ashby and confirmed at Kvam Lutheran Church, rural Dalton. Mildred attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1933. During her high school years, she worked at the City Bakery in Fergus Falls. On September 19, 1937, she married Nobel Nelson of Dalton, at the Kvam Lutheran Church. In the 1950’s, she initiated the noon hot lunch program for Dalton School District #8, where she worked for ten years. During these years the summer months were spent clerking at Rorvigs Grocery in Dalton. She then worked at the First State Bank in Ashby for four years, followed by employment at the First State Bank of Dalton, where she worked until her retirement. She resided in Dalton until 2001 when she moved to Fergus Falls, becoming a resident of the Broen Memorial Home in 2004. Nobel and Mildred enjoyed their summers at their Ten Mile Lake cabin, always looking forward to that first day of fishing. She was involved with Our Saviors-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, always willing to help with their activities. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Nobel; brothers, Willie and Robert Tripp; a brother-in-law, Howard Johnson and an infant son, Jerry. Survivors include a son, Delbert (Alice) of Centennial, CO; a daughter, Janis (Norlin) Lade of Ashby; a sister, Ruth Johnson of Edina; sister-in-law, May Tripp of Ashby; four grandsons, Gregory Nelson of Littleton, CO, Scott Nelson of Centennial, CO, Darcy Nelson of Woodbury, MN and Brian Lade of Mountain House, CA; four granddaughters, Cynthia Lade Hari of Mesa, AZ, Patricia Lade Taylor and Deborah Lade Boyd of Dickson, TN and Rebecca Lou Nelson Shaw of Yuma, AZ; fifteen great-grandchildren along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
