Mildred Meyer

Mildred Bernice Meyer, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the PioneerCare Center in Fergus Falls. She was born July 9, 1924, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Alvin C. and Helen (Nelson) Tollefson. She grew up in Dane Prairie Township, and graduated from Underwood High School in 1943. She worked for City Bakery, the Gambles Store, Runningen Cafe, Dr. Eastman DDS, and Dr. Waylander D.C. It was there that she met Wallace and they were married on September 22, 1951, in Underwood. They made their home in Aastad Township. In 1999 she moved to Fergus Falls, and to PioneerCare in 2008. Through the years Mildred played the organ for over 30 years at the Aastad Lutheran Church where she was an active member. After raising her family she went back to work, working for Dr. Walter Christianson, D.C. in Fergus Falls. Mildred loved music, especially organ music, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and baking. As a young woman she enjoyed ice skating and roller skating. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and a brother, Chester Tollefson. Survivors include her three daughters: Deborah (Mark) Morris of Fergus Falls, Diane (Joel) Aaberg of Pagosa Springs, CO, and Betty (Preston) Shipe of Shoreview; and four grandchildren: Stephanie Morris, Jason (Nikki) Morris, Tyler Shipe, and Kimberly Shipe.
