Mildred M. Goebel

Mildred (Millie) Mae Stout Goebel died peacefully, November 15, 2023, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

Millie was born July 26, 1925, in England, AR, to Ollie and Clemmie (Howard) Stout. After graduating high school in Ponca City, OK, she was employed at the United States/British flight training school (The Darr School of Aeronautics) where she met her dashing husband, 1st Lt. Homer Goebel. They were married on October 30, 1943.

Millie and Homer returned to Fargo, ND after WW II (October 1945) where they raised their family until 1995 when they retired to their home on Lake Melissa.

Brig. Gen Homer Goebel preceded her in death on August 12, 2017. Homer was born August 20, 1920, in Belfield, ND, to William and Annette (Gausmel) Goebel. After graduating from Fargo Central High School with the class of 1937, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College, graduating in 1942. He then joined the Army Corps and was stationed at the Darrr School of Aeronautics. In 1947, Homer participated in the creation of the North Dakota Air National Guard.

Preceding Homer and Millie in death were their parents and oldest son, Homer G. Goebel Jr. in 1963.

Homer and Millie are survived by their children, Jon Goebel (Sarah) of Ridgecrest, CA, Brian Goebel (Heather Johnson) of Green Vally, AZ, Bruce Goebel (Michelle) of Golden Valley, AZ, and Kathy Gilberts (Todd) of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Michael Homer (Stephanie) Goebel, Loren (Chris) Salvesen, Chelsey (Matt) Finke, and Brittni Goebel; six step-grandchildren, Blair (Becky) Gilberts, Tyler (Emily) Gilberts, Shelby Gilberts, Nathan Gilberts Ginger (Chris) Gill, and Jason (Marina) Webb; five great-grandchildren, Cede, MaKenzi, Logan, Katelyn and Austynn; and six great-step-grandchildren, Harper, Raylynn, Tate, Hadleigh, Hayden and Alexander.

Burial for Homer and Millie will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo, ND.
