Mildred “Millie” Bruvold, 93, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, January 2, 2012, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Millie was born in Miles City, Montana on December 25, 1918, the only child of Carl and Mathilda (Bjerke) Bruvold. She graduated from high school in Fessenden, North Dakota and was the North Dakota state typing champion for two consecutive years while in high school. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. During college she had opportunities to teach night school as well as participate in the International typewriting contest in Chicago, which she won. She also was recruited to go to work for the FBI. On January 2, 1941 she began working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C., doing stenography and typing in the Sabotage Section during the war. She eventually was chosen by J. Edgar Hoover to be his personal secretary. In 1948 she started her own business, Bruvold’s Secretarial Service in Fergus Falls, and continued in this business for 51 years until February of 1999. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1947 and in 1980 began working part-time as the Parish Worker. She was also a Rotarian. She enjoyed photography, music, flower gardening, birdwatching and writing. Preceding her in death were her parents. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
