Michael “Mike” Duane Schultz, 55, a resident of Underwood, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends with Lakeland Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born on June 27, 1953 to Duane and Louise (Pearson) Schultz and was baptized in Pelican Rapids. He was a 1971 graduate of Fergus Falls High School. He married Vicky (Pederson) Lyon on June 16, 1990, in a beautiful ceremony at Maplewood State Park. Together they formed a family with their children Kate and Steven. Mike has been employed with Bunny Bread, Mothers Records, Sound of Music, with construction in the area, Fleet Farm, Norson Window and Glass, the Underwood American Legion, “Two Guys Siding” and most recently for his sister at Wild Rose Floral and Gifts as a delivery man. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved all sports, gardening, NASCAR, music, trivia, grilling, playing cards and cribbage, doing puzzles, and cruising in his convertible. He was previously married to Carmen Koester and Teresa Platz. Preceding him in death was his father, Duane Schultz. Surviving family members include his wife Vicky Schultz of Underwood, children Kate (Randall) Mansfield and Steven Lyon, faithful pets Murphy and Beetlejuice, grandchildren Vanessa Fletcher and Benjamin Lyon, mother Louise Schultz, siblings Pat (Val) Schultz, Lori (Jeff) Hirte, Tom Schultz, Kay (Joe) Braun, Bob “Goob” (Elaine) Schultz, and best friend Phil Peterson all of Fergus Falls, and numerous other family members and friends.
