Michael A. Olson, 69, a longtime resident of the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the center.
Michael was born February 2, 1944, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the second child born to Lloyd and Jeanette (Bergtoll) Olson. He had an older brother that was stillborn, and he has a younger sister, Kathleen.
Due to multiple disabilities and sever seizures Michael was committed to public guardianship and was placed in the regional treatment system in 1945. In 1988 he moved to the Arlington group home in Fergus Falls. He lived there until his health declined and he required more medical care. He was then admitted to the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Home in 1995, where he resided until his death.
Even though Michael was a small individual with multiple disabilities and could not speak, he won the hearts of many who knew him. He will be missed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Jeanette Olson, and a stillborn sibling.
Survivors include his sister, Kathleen Kienegger who resides in San Dimas, California.
There will be a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Battle Lake. Interment will be at Tordenskjold Cemetery, rural Underwood.
