Michael "Mike" John Loomer

Michael “Mike” John Loomer, 62, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family, under the care of Lakeland Hospice.

Michael was born on December 14, 1953, to John W. and Phoebe (Stock) Loomer in Fergus Falls. He attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1972. After graduation he was enlisted in the United States Air Force from October of 1972 to May of 1976, as an air traffic controller. He was stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, MI.

On March 25, 1979, he married Michelle Dickson at the Methodist Church in Wellington, KS. Together they raised three children; Crystal, Melissa and Eric. Mike always loved farming, and started his lifelong farming career in 1976.

Mike was an active member of the Federated Church in Fergus Falls. He was proud to have been a former member of the Deacon and Elders and part of the Mission Committee. He loved teaching the seventh and eighth graders for many years. The kids loved Mike and he loved them also. He was well-known for bringing donuts to Sunday School every Sunday. He loved kids of all ages and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, especially pulling them on the tube behind the boat. His favorite place to visit was House of Hope in Guatemala. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Phoebe Loomer; and his mother-in-law, Wanda Dickson.

Mike is survived by his wife, Michelle Loomer of Fergus Falls; his children, Crystal (Tyson) Cavalier of Richville, Melissa Loomer of Richville and Eric (Lyssa Kuhn) Loomer of Fergus Falls; his grandchildren, Makiya, Takeo and Kyan Cavalier; his brother, Butch (Barb) Loomer of Fergus Falls; his father-in-law, Bob Dickson of Wellington, KS; a brother-in-law, Jerry Dickson of Wichita, KS; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at the Olson Funeral Home with a public prayer service at 6:30 PM lead by Reverend John Lindholm. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
