Michael William Hylden, 65, of Ottertail, Minnesota, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at his residence.
He was born September 5, 1947, in Seoul, South Korea, the son of Maurice and Maryann (Larson) Hylden. He grew up in Texas, moving to Little Falls during his high school years, where he graduated from high school in 1965. He attended NDSU, graduating with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
On September 7, 1968, he married Mary Jean Slettom and they made their home in Fargo, North Dakota while he was in college. They moved to Fergus Falls following his graduation, where he was employed at Rosenblatt’s. In 1985 he purchased the company and renamed it Hylden Industries. He sold the company in 1990. He married Janice Umlauf on June 20, 1997. He later worked for Polaris, Sealy Mattress, and Boston Scientific as a plant manager, recently retiring.
Mike played semi-professional baseball, did an Iron Man Triathalon, and took state champion in racquetball. He enjoyed boating, playing on-line poker, playing in the World Series Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, and was a sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed music, and played the violin. He was a sentimental and compassionate person.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Everson of Clear Lake, MN; three sons, Mark (fiancée Kayti) Hylden of Minneapolis, Darren Hylden of Arlington, TX, and Nathan (fiancée Heather) Hylden of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren: Chloe and Luke Everson, and Austin, Mason and Evan Hylden; and two sisters, Kathleen (Terry) McCorvie of Florida, and Sharon (Gary) Nelson of Arkansas.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls
