Michael Roy Corliss, age 58, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, August 19, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Michael was born on October 30, 1957, to Donald John and Evelyn Mary (Spies) Corliss in Minneapolis. He attended elementary school at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1976. After graduation, he attended Fergus Falls Community College, where he obtained his Associate’s degree.
Mike was enlisted in the United States Army (grade SP4) from August 16, 1977 to August 11, 1980. He received honors for marksmanship (pistol and hand grenade), sharpshooting(rifle) and for being a member of the Military Police.
In his younger years, Mike worked at Northern Aire Bowling Lanes. After that, he worked at Service Food in Fergus Falls for many years, as a night manager and retired due to poor health in 2011.
Mike was an animal lover and had a special place in his heart for his beloved cat, Sylvia. He enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, cooking and trying new recipes, classic and muscle cars and watching movies and old television shows. He loved history, especially anything involving military history. Mike was also a devoted caregiver to his mother the last several years of her life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Evelyn Corliss; and an infant daughter, Danielle.
Michael is survived by his sister Mary (Michael) Lalla of Wyoming, MN; a niece, Amy Pickard of Enterprise, AL; a nephew, Kevin Lalla of Newport, OR; his longtime friend and caregiver, Jennifer Bellet of Fergus Falls; his uncle, Merle Scott of Fergus Falls; his aunt, Ethel Spies of Grand Forks, ND; and many relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Fergus Falls American Legion Post #30 and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls.
