Melvin Ulrich, 85, of Aitkin, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Golden Horizons Memory Care, in Aitkin.
He was born May 31, 1929, in Redwood Falls, the son of William and Marie (Rodewald) Ulrich. He grew up in Redwood Falls and attended school there and later moved with his family moved to Audubon.
On June 21, 1949, he married Irene Disney in Audubon. They made their home in Audubon and later moved to the Detroit Lakes area and Clarkfield. In 1966, they moved to Fergus Falls, where Melvin was employed as a stationary engineer for the Fergus Falls State Hospital and drove bus for Ottertail Coaches.
Melvin was a member of the Eagles Club in Fergus Falls and enjoyed gardening and bowling.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Irene; a son, David; a daughter, Sharon; his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Wallace and an infant sister, Elaine Ulrich, and two brothers, Alton and Wayne Ulrich.
Survivors include his children, William (Julie) of Stevens Point, WI, Thomas (Fay) of Wendell, MN, Kathryn (Gaylon) Eken of McGrath, MN, Richard (Mary) of Graham, WA, and Joel (Annette) of Yakima, WA; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sisters, Verona (Ken) Poolman of MN, Yvonne (Dave) Seaberg of MN, Naomi (Curt) Elton of ID, and Iris (Marv) Johnson of MN; brothers, Carl of AK, Stan of MA and Vernon (Sue)of ID; and a sister-in-law, Carol Ulrich of CO.
Visitation: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015, with a prayer service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume one hour prior to the service on Monday`
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls
