Melvin L. Mellan, 90, formerly from Bovey, MN, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls where he resided for 2 years.
He was born on November 10, 1924, in Henning, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Nettie (Knutson) Mellan. Melvin grew up in rural Henning, where he went to country school. He attended Dunwoody School of Mechanics in Minneapolis graduating in 1947.
Melvin served in the Army as a PFC at Fort Lewis in Washington. He received the American Theatre Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
On January 27, 1952, he married Patricia (McKinney) Mellan in Walker, MN.
He worked for US Steel for 25 years as a diamond drill and steel mill operator, retiring in 1977.
Melvin was an active member of the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling and snowmobiling.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 60 years, Patricia; mother, Nettie; father, Carl; sister, Laura (Hoff) Mellan.
Survivors include his nephew, Roger (Mary) Hoff of Milbank, SD; niece, Betty (Hoff) Bergerud of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Fran John of WA; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday at PioneerCare Chapel, Fergus Falls

Burial: Will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine at a later date.
