Melvin Bruns

Melvin H. Bruns, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was born May 3, 1916, in Molke Township, Sibley Co., Minnesota, the son of Theodore and Ella (Buerkle) Bruns. He attended rural school. On November 23, 1941, he married Emma Ida Schultz at the Parsonage in Bertha Township with Rev. Martin Kirsch officiating. He worked at Gibbon Radio Repair shop, learning electrical repair. During WWII he worked at Holman Field in St. Paul installing the highly classified H2X radar in B-24 Liberator Bombers. In 1953, they moved from Gaylord to Fergus Falls and opened Bruns Radio and TV Repair. After retiring, he worked as a greeter for K-Mart in Fergus Falls. Melvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and kept the church organ in top condition. He was also a member of the Lake Region Amateur Radio Club of Fergus Falls, WB?ETY. He always had a garden, some years as big as 150 feet by 100 feet and loved fishing and dancing whenever he could. Preceding him in death were his wife, Emma, whom he cared for for many years in her battle with MS; a son, Gerald; a daughter, Beverlee; his parents; sisters, Erna Meyer, Leorda Wentland and Ruth who died as an infant; brother, Wesley; in-laws, Loraine Bruns, Arlene Schultz, William and Millie Schultz, Al Bloechl and Hilmer Wentland. Survivors include his girlfriend, Dorothy Zuehlsdorff of Fergus Falls; his son, Robert (Colleen) of Dalton; his daughter, Kathleen Bruns of Fergus Falls; a son-in-law, Clinton McMullen of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Michael, Chad and James (Lori) McMullen, Lindsay James, Emma (Greg) Mertes and Jacob Bruns; great-grandchildren, Christine, Cody and Casey James, Jazzlynn White, Camron and Caden McMullen, Madeline, Macen and Maveric Mertes; three brothers, Clarence (Evelyn), Harlen (Joy), and Dean (Sharon); in-laws, Sally Bloechl and Bud (Rose) Schultz along with numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, with Reverend Curtis Deterding officiating. Interment will be at Trinity-Faith Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
