Maynard Hornstine, 85, died Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls after bravely battling cancer for five years. He was born in Campbell, Minnesota on December 8, 1924, the son of Frank and Martha (Waldecker) Hornstine. He grew up in the Campbell area and graduated from Campbell High School in 1942. He continued to work on the family farm until 1950. On October 25, 1950, he married Josephine Mavis. They lived on the farm until her death in 1968. On September 5, 1969 he married Phyllis Westergard. They continued to live and work on the farm until her death on June 11, 1993. In July of 2001 Maynard moved from the farm to Fergus Falls, where he lived until his death. Maynard was active in the Campbell community. He served on the township board from 1966 to 1980. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. Preceding him in death were his wives, Josephine and Phyllis, a stepson, Stephen Ravenscraft, and a son-in-law, Don Gedde. Survivors include his special friend, Darlene Ehlert, of Fergus Falls; his three daughters: Brenda Murray of St. Louis, MO, Nina Gedde of Battle Lake, and Tina (John) Tamke-Boury of Northwood, ND; a sister, Minnie Neubauer of Wendell, MN; ten grandchildren: Chad Ravenscraft of Fergus Falls, Jeremy Ravenscraft of Evansville, Dan (Melissa) Gedde of Dilworth, Danielle (Donny) Addison of Brainerd, Eric Riedel of Minneapolis, Andrew Riedel of Moorhead, Kyle Sundberg of Fargo, ND, Jared Tamke of Battle Lake, and Samantha Tamke and Hunter Boury of Northwood, ND; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
