Maurice Kugler

Maurice M. Kugler, 91, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. He was born February 1, 1916, in Friberg Township, rural Fergus Falls, the son of Carl and Kathryn (Cameron) Kugler. He attended country school. On October 6, 1942, he married Vivian Swenson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He helped his parents on the farm until he started to work for John Dieseth Company on road construction, including some local work, as well as in areas such as Duluth, St. Paul, Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. After his marriage in 1942 he worked on airports in Pierre, SD, Hayes, Kansas, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Alexandria, MN. The highlight of his working career was working on the Alcan Highway in Alaska. He then farmed for twenty years. In 1962 he began working in the lab at ConAgra Mills until his retirement in 1984. In his early years he attended St. Paul Lutheran Church. They held services in the school house in Friberg. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 75 years. Maurice loved to travel, so they went on a lot of trips into Canada and all over the United States. He loved going to Branson and Yellowstone Park, and enjoyed short day trips after his retirement. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers: Floyd Kugler and Forrest Kugler; and two brothers-in-law: Ervin Strande and Clarence Schulz. Survivors include his wife, Vivian of Fergus Falls; children: Perry (Janet) Kugler of Battle Lake, and Keith Kugler of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: Prentice (Dusti) Kugler of St. Louis Park, and Kirstin Kugler of White Bear Lake; great-grandchildren: Stone Sullivan, Rafferty Kugler, and Hattie Kugler; brother, Eldor (Marlene) Kugler of Erhard; sisters: Genevieve Strande and Valdean Schulz both of Fergus Falls; brothers-in-law: Richard (Olive) Swenson and Peter Van Santen; sisters-in-law: Arlette Swenson and Dorothy Kugler; and Mary Ann Kugler of Fergus Falls. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Olson Funeral Home, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Clergy: Rev. Roger Lang Interment: Trinity-Faith Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
