Maurice S. “Maury” Hogren, 80, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Maury was born on January 17, 1935, the second of four children to Niel and Eleanor (Borowski) Hogren. He grew up in Moline, IL, where he attended Carsten’s Park Elementary School. The family moved to Mankato, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. While in the Navy, he fell in love with and married Delores Contreras. He and Delores had five children and lived in San Diego, CA.
After the Navy, Maury experienced numerous and interesting lines of employment. For the last forty years, he has lived in the Fergus Falls area, where he was a painting contractor and painted houses with his dad for many years. In his retirement, Maury loved fishing, hunting, cooking, baking, canning, playing cards, being outside enjoying nature and spending time with his family and friends. Maury was loving, kind, generous, young at heart, a trickster and was loved and will be missed by many.
Maury was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; and other family and close friends.
He is survived by his children; sister, Zelda (Curt) Fauth; brother, Gary (Jan) Hogren; sister, Rhonda Carroll and her son, Todd Smith; numerous other caring nephews and nieces; the best cousins, and many other family members and special friends.
A memorial service and burial will be at Western Presbyterian Cemetery in rural Fergus Falls, on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at 2:30 PM.
