Maude C. Strissel, 95, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the Hospitality House, rural Fergus Falls. She was born February 6, 1916, in Rothsay, Minnesota, the daughter of Ragnvald and Anna (Johnson) Gotaas. At age 12 she moved to Fergus Falls, where she lived until her death. Maude was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School with the Class of 1933. On June 23, 1939, she married Elvier Strissel. She spent many years caring for children in her home, at church, and at the bowling alley. Maude enjoyed cats, dogs, crocheting, painting, sewing, loom-weaving, baking, and gardening. She loved music and was self-taught on the piano and accordion. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, four brothers, Rolf, Jack, Arvid and David, and two sisters, Mildred and Ginny. Survivors include her sister, Dolly Sanderson of Dent, MN; her sister-in-law, Henrietta Gotaas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor’s choice.
