Mary Jean Evavold, 73, a resident of rural Elbow Lake, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Vibra Hospital in Fargo, ND.
She was born December 14, 1940, the daughter of Joseph and Kathryn (Hagen) Sundby in Fergus Falls. Mary grew up on a farm east of Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1958. After high school she worked at Otter Tail Power for a couple of years.
On April 15, 1961 Mary was united in marriage to Gaylan Evavold at Aurdal Church in Fergus Falls. After the couple married, she was a homemaker, raising their three children. In the late 1970s, she became the Aastad/Rock Prairie parish secretary, until her health caused her to retire in the mid 1990s.
Mary was very active at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church ladies aid, circle, taught Sunday School and was also in a Homemakers group.
She enjoyed spending time and eating out with her family and friends and attending her grandchildren’s activities.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother, Charles.
She is survived by her husband Gaylan of rural Elbow Lake; children, Terry (Ellie) Evavold of rural Fergus Falls, Jana (Mark) Hanson of Grand Forks, ND, Karen (Bob) Rea of Maple Grove; 11 grandchildren, Kayla, Matthew, Samantha and Andrew Evavold, Jessica and Charlie Zakaras, Sarah, Seth and Adam Hanson, Kyle and Eric Rea; brother-in-law, Roger (Beverly) Evavold of Fergus Falls; three sisters-in-law, Donna Sonmor of Fergus Falls, Audrey (Rodney) Pletan of Forest Lake, Carolyn (Ronald) Nelson of Rochester. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with a public prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
