Mary Ellen (Stock) Johnson, age 72, of Burnsville, a Fergus Falls native, died on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Mary Ellen was born on June 11, 1943, the first of five children, to Henry T. and Marie (Gjerde) Stock in Fergus Falls. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Western Township and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Mary Ellen was a graduate and Senior Class President of the Fergus Falls High School Class of 1961. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1965, with a B.S. in Education. After raising her two sons, Stephen and Christopher, She earned a Masters of Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1992.
Mary Ellen’s adult life was centered on her faith, family and friendships. She loved her sons and their wives, Monica and Keri. She always looked forward to her visits with their families, bringing her large Blue Max suitcase full of gifts. Her favorite role was being “Meme” to her six grandchildren: Matt, Caroline, Sam, Emily, Abby, and Will. She loved to shower them with her love, their favorite treats and daily “mystery box” presents.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Marie Stock; and a nephew, Matthew Stock.
She is survived by her two sons, Stephen (Monica) Johnson of Austin, TX, and Christopher (Keri) Johnson of Birmingham, AL; her six grandchildren, Matthew, Caroline, and Samuel Johnson of Austin, TX, and Emily, Abigail and William Johnson of Birmingham, AL; her siblings, Norma Jean (Stan) Shaw of Santa Barbara, CA, Diane (Bradley) Miller of Pequot Lakes, David (Deborah) Stock of Fergus Falls and Jane Marie (Cornel Walker) Stock of Galveston, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday January 8, 2016, at the Olson Funeral Home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church
Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Federated Church, Fergus Falls
