Mary Ann Dunwell, 64, a resident of Pelican Rapids, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
She was born September 25, 1949, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Glenn and Margaret (Miller) Flatin. She grew up in the Rothsay area, graduating from Rothsay High School in 1967. She then attended Ritters Beauty College in Fergus Falls and worked as a beautician.
In 1975, she married Marlin Thompson in Rothsay. The couple had two children, Michael and Glenn.
On September 18, 1993, she married John Dunwell, her high school sweetheart, at Central Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids. She was employed as an associate at Target and worked for a special friend, Darcy at the Beauty Cellar of Pelican Rapids.
Mary loved to paint, knit, read, and go to garage sales. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed her family of cats. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church and it’s Ladies Aid.
Preceding her in death were her father and a brother, Fred Flatin.
Survivors include her mother, Margaret Flatin of Pelican Rapids; her husband, John of Pelican Rapids; two sons, Michael Thompson of Rothsay and Glenn Thompson of Fargo; stepson, Ryan Dunwell of California; stepdaughter, Laura (Vernon) House of Washington State; eight grandchildren, Ivy, William, Robert, Gage, Haley, Lexi, Faith and London; two brothers, Allen (Wanda) Flatin of Rothsay, and Jerry (Jan) Flatin of Grand Forks; a sister, Roberta (Stuart) Restad of Pelican Rapids; sister-in-law, Karen Flatin of Bemidji; numerous nieces and nephews and friends and family who loved her dearly.
