Mary Ann McDonald

Mary Ann McDonald, 82, died peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver, CO.

She was born Mary Ann Handsuch on July 11, 1942 in Montgomery, MN, the daughter of Mary Anne Geronime Handsuch and William Joseph Handsuch. She was the youngest of four children.

As a young woman, she moved to Fergus Falls, MN with her brother, John. While there, she met James McDonald, and the two were married on June 10, 1967, at the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Mary Ann and Jim raised five children together and were married for 53 years when Jim died in 2020. A lifelong lover of cats and music, Mary Ann passed on these loves to her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and her faith was an enduring source of strength for her and her family.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Katherine Thunborg (Loren), Ann McDonald, and Margaret McDonald (Chris Jessen); her son, Matthew McDonald; her seven grandsons, Christopher (Taylor), Isaac, and Alex Adams, Nicholas and Andrew Thunborg, and Leo and Henry McDonald; her granddaughter, Cecilia Adams; her great-granddaughters, Maren and Caroline Adams; and her brother, Stan Handsuch (Cookie).

She was preceded in death by her husband, James McDonald; her parents, Mary and William; her daughter, Elizabeth Adams, and infant son, Peter 

James; her sister, Dorothy Svoboda; her brother, John Handsuch; and her daughter-in-law, Jessica Berson.

 Donations in Mary Ann’s memory can be made to Bronchiectasis and NTM initiative, Alzheimer's Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and METAvivor.

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: St. Otto Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
