Marvin Kugler

June 30, 1915 — September 29, 2012

Marvin Clifford Kugler, 97, a resident of rural Erhard, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

He was born June 30, 1915, at home in Friberg Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the son of John and Lillian (Olds) Kugler. Marvin grew up on the family farm. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Marvin traveled with a threshing crew into North Dakota. He traveled to Michigan with his cousin, Lester, in a Model T car that they purchased for $5. While there they worked at a block factory.

Marvin and Gladys Davidson grew up as neighbors and fell in love. They were married on August 10, 1939, in Fergus Falls. The couple farmed in Friberg Township for 38 years. After retiring from farming he did carpentry work with Albert Swanson.

For many years he has been a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church.

Most of all, Marvin loved his family. He was ready at a moment’s notice to be there for anyone of them. He loved walking, ice fishing, gardening, reading, dancing, sharing hugs and kisses, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Marvin was said to have nine lives. He survived being carried ¼ mile in a tornado, a broken neck while cutting wood, and losing his finger from a bite from a pet muskrat.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Vernon and Robert, two sisters, Violet and Velda, and a sister-in-law, Bessie Abbott.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Erhard; four children: Errol (JoAnn) Kugler, Gary (Ruthy) Kugler, Brenda (Larry) Peasley, and Phil (Lori) Kugler, all of Erhard; his grandchildren: Greg (Julie) Kugler, Rick Kugler, Joel (Patsi) Kugler, Danny (Maggie) Willert, Leon (Stephanie) Kugler, Casey (fiancée Susan Kaden) Kugler, Missy (Rob) Larson, Stephanie (Brad) Anderson, Amber (Seth) Simonson, Adam Peasley, Ben Kugler, and Kristen Kugler; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lila Duenow of Fergus Falls, and Sylvia Thompson of Pelican Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
