Marvin L. Hanson, 86, a lifetime resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Pioneer Cottages under the care of LB Hospice.
Marv was born on March 5, 1931, the tenth of twelve children born to John and Ida (Schmidt) Hanson. He grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated in 1949.
He enlisted in the military in 1951, serving in the United States Air Force until 1955 as an Aircraft Mechanic. Upon returning home, he attended Wahpeton State School of Science in the refrigeration technician program. Later, he worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2000 after 38 years of service.
In December of 1963, Marv married Dorothy Gearhart. This marriage was blessed with two children, Scott and Angela.
In 1989, he married Nancy Rucker. They we married until her death in 2010.
Marv loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing with friends and family. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins. In his younger years he played baseball and was recruited to play by area teams including Underwood, Dalton, and Fergus Falls. He loved to cook and garden and enjoyed the companionship of his pets, especially his dogs.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Nancy; Sisters: Elfreda Botts, Olga Teberg, Irene Anderson, Violet Scott, and Doris Kvalheim; Brothers: Baldwin, Lester, Donald, LeRoy, and Gordon.
Survivors include his son, Scott (Dawn) Hanson with grandchildren Britta and Nate of Moorhead; daughter, Angela (Wes) Ballensky with grandchildren Symantha, Andy, Allyson, and Sydney of Fishers, Indiana; stepchildren, Christine (Dean) Dennis, Traci Russell, and Alan Rucker; and one sister, Lucille Schmidt of Hutchinson, Minnesota.
Visitation: 5-7 PM Friday, October 6, 2017, at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and resuming one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 10 AM Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls
