Marvin Melvin Engel, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Broen Memorial Home. Marvin was born on May 31, 1925 in Goodrich, N.D., the son of Joseph and Siona (Mauch) Engel. He grew up in Goodrich and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1943. After high school he continued his education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton in radio and refrigeration. He married Helen Erickson on August 6, 1950 in Fergus Falls. Through the years he worked at various electronic stores including 23 years at Warren’s Radio and TV shop. Marvin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls since 1950, serving on various boards and committees. He enjoyed music and sang in several choirs. He played the spoons and especially enjoyed playing for others during his retirement years. He also enjoyed woodworking. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Melvin who died as a child and Dallas. Survivors include his wife, Helen of Fergus Falls; two children, Calvin (Susan) Engel of Wichita, KS; Marlene (Larry) Halvorson of Cooperstown, ND; three grandchildren, Jonathan and Adam Engel of Wichita, KS and Benjamin Halvorson of Cooperstown, ND. Also surviving are sister in-laws Jeanette Althoff and Grace (George) Keena and two nieces, Carla (Dave) Uhreka and Crystal Engel. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Light and Life Auditorium at the Broen Home with Chaplain Ken Austin officiating. Condolences may be sent online at
