Martin Kantrud

Martin Ingvald Kantrud, 92, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Broen Memorial Home. Martin was born on the home farm in Oscar Township, the son of Christian O. and Mary (Sletvold) Kantrud on September 20, 1915. He attended country school and was confirmed at Hedemarken Lutheran Church in 1929. Martin worked on the home farm and lived with this companion dog, "Dick" until moving into Fergus Falls in September of 1999. He entered the Broen Memorial Home on November 4, 2004 where he resided until his death. He was a lifelong member of Hedemarken Lutheran Church, Elizabeth's Sportsman's Club, Sons of Norway, rural school board, Oscar Township Telephone Company and Carlisle Oil Company. He served in a variety of capacities in these organizations. He will be remembered for his quick wit and was an avid reader and sports fan. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Emma Kantrud, Olga Battrick and Christine Wendlandt; brothers, Edmond and Harold Kantrud and his nephew, James Wendlandt. Survivors include his niece, Bonita Nerbovig and her family of Sequim, WA and numerous cousins and friends. The family would like to acknowledge the Broen Memorial Home staff and family and friends for all their loving care. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, Rural Rothsay.
