Marlys Steen, 85, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at her Mill Street residence.
She was born August 29, 1927, the daughter of Arne and Mayme (Miklebost) Arneson. She grew up in Fergus Falls and was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Marlys attended Fergus Falls Public Schools, graduating in 1946. Following high school, she began employment with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and worked there until her retirement in 1981.
On June 23, 1951, she married Roy K. Steen at Grace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls. She joined the Methodist church and was active with the women’s group and was awarded a special membership for service in 1996.
Marlys was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Communication Workers of America, Job’s Daughters and had been involved with Camp Fire Girls and PTA. She enjoyed following her sons and grandsons events and programs. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, embroidering, hiking, dancing, juggling, playing the piano, modeling and being around dogs and horses.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Roy.
Survivors include her sons, Bradley of Fargo, ND and Arne (Tamara) of Fergus Falls; two grandsons, Samuel Roy and Jacob Attle; a sister, Phyllis (Harris) Garberg of Twin Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
