Marlys Jean Opsal, 78, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born December 7, 1929 in Sebeka, Minnesota, the daughter of Emmett and Olga (Selleseth) Anderson. Marlys grew up in the Herman-Norcross area, where she attended school. The family then moved to the Fergus Falls area where she worked at the Fergus Maid ice cream shop and at the Fergus Falls RTC. She and Lloyd Glorvigen were married, and they lived throughout the United States while he was in the service. In 1966 they returned to Fergus Falls where she resumed working at the RTC, retiring in the late 1980's. On July 28, 1979, she and Loren Opsal were married in California. He died in 1993. Marlys loved bingo, hanging with the Golden Girls, and her pets. She belonged to Augustana Lutheran Church, the VFW and Eagle?s Auxiliary, and bowling leagues, and volunteered at the Humane Society. Preceding her in death were a sister, Phyllis Sporre, and a granddaughter, Debbie Glorvigen. Survivors include her daughter, Paula Thorsen of Fergus Falls; two sons, Dana Glorvigen of Fergus Falls, and Mike (Char) Glorvigen of Moorhead; five grandchildren: Melanie, Breena, Melissa, Karly and Tori; one sister, Donna Larson of New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. Visitation: 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
