Marlen Swenson, 79, of Crookston, formerly of Orwell Dam (rural area) of Fergus Falls, died November 17, 2021 at his residence.
Marlen was born November 10, 1942, in Fergus Falls, to Carl and Faith (Noffsinger) Swenson. Marlen attended school till his 10th grade year. He then started his running of the family farm due to his father’s accident and poor health. In 1987, he returned to school to earn his GED.
On September 24, 1965, Marlen married Helen B. Muehler of Fairmount, ND. Marlen then went to fight in the Vietnam War in 1967 as a sniper. When he returned home, he continued to farm and raise three children. After retiring from farming, Marlen held many jobs and skills. He even served on a few boards, as well as a board member to the St. Paul Livestock Association. (FATTEN THEM COWS, Marley!)
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Faith Swenson; wife, Helen Swenson; grandson, Brandon Stamp; and brothers, Gary Swenson and Gordon Swenson.
Marlen is survived by his daughters, Vicki Stamp of Abilene, TX, and Sherry Swenson Elder of Merkel, TX; son, David Carl Swenson of Crookston, MN; grandchildren, Nicole Stamp, Madison Stamp, Sarah Elder, Jacob C.D Elder, and Jamanie Swenson; sister, Carolyn Sommers and family of Chisolm.
Marlen was always a helpful, jolly and happy man. He touched many lives in very different and unique ways. WE will miss him and all his conversations and his laughter. (Oh my gosh can ya just hear him from here!)
A Graveside Service will be held at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, MN on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
