Marion Ruth (Mrs. Orwell) Hoff, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday November 27, 2010, at Lake Region Healthcare. She was born on March 10, 1919, at Sidney, MT, the daughter of Otto and Neva (Herbert) Olson. Until the age of 12, the family farmed on her mothers homestead near Andes, MT. Years of drought and crop failures spurred a move to an irrigated farm near Sidney, where her parents farmed for four years before moving to Fergus Falls. She graduated from Sidney High school and then joined her family in rural Fergus Falls. On November 3, 1937, she married Orwell E. Hoff on the family farm in Aastad twp., rural Fergus Falls. They lived on the same farm for over 50 years, moving to Fergus Falls in 1995. A baptized and confirmed member of the Lutheran church, she was an active participant of Aastad Lutheran Church, where she taught bible school, was a WELCA member and belonged to its circle group. In addition, Marion was a board member of School District 118, belonged to the Dalton Senior Citizens, the Y’s Folks of Fergus Falls and was a volunteer at the Pioneer Care Center right up to her recent illness. She was always willing to help others and was very proud of her volunteering work. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orwell, three sisters, Margaret Hanson, Hazel Johanson and Evelyn Halliburton, and two brothers, Herbert and Harvey Olson. Survived by two daughters, Ruth (Daniel) Manning of Omaha, NE and Orla (Loren) Maahs of Fergus Falls, two sons, Allan (Patricia) Hoff of Fergus Falls and Herbert (Marjorie) Hoff of Hutchinson, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one sister, Mabel Brown of Sacramento, CA Memorials are preferred to Aastad Lutheran Church, Chapel at the PioneerCare or the organization of the donor's choice.
