Marilyn Ardell Jacobson was born in McHenry, ND, on September 24, 1935 and entered her eternal home on Saturday, November 2, 2024. She died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls, MN.
She was the oldest of five children born to Anton and Margrethe Haugland. The family lived on a farm near Tolna, ND. She went to a one room school house near her home through 8th grade. She attended Dakota Lutheran High School in Minot, ND her freshman and sophomore years. Her junior year was done by correspondence through the University of Fargo. Marilyn attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo for her senior year, graduating May of 1953. She was offered a scholarship to attend Valley City State Teacher's College where she spent the next year. She taught in a couple of one room school houses near her home for the next three years.
She married David Jacobson on June 10, 1956 at Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, ND. The couple lived on a farm north of Binford, ND. They had two children, Marsha and Pam.
Marilyn was a member of Bethany Free Lutheran church in Binford, N.D. and was active in the Ladies Aid. She was an amazing Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She played piano for church and was an accompanist for many who sang for special music.
For several years Marilyn worked for a Photography Studio in Grand Forks. They mailed her black and white portraits that she would colorize with oil paint and mail back. Art was something she loved and was very good at. Marilyn was also a part of the local Home-makers Club. She loved to read, do many kinds of word puzzles, play games, camp, but her greatest passion was sewing. She especially enjoyed quilting and sewed many baby quilts for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law. Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Marsha (Jim) Johnson and Pamela (Matt) Kinneberg; her siblings, Junice (Jerry) Bryson, Evangeline Jarman, Arthur Haugland and Karen (Allen) Solhjem; her grandchildren, Joshua (Katie) Johnson, Marli (Kyle) Arneson, Shelby (Shane) Webber and Mackenzie (Micah) Long; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In a "Grandma, Tell Me Your Memories..." book she filled out, under the question, "Do you have a good piece of advice for Me?" a part of that answer was: "Absolutely! The very most important advice in the whole world is to be sure you have Jesus in your heart and to live for Him! There is nothing more important than that." Marilyn often quoted this verse: 3 John 1:4 "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." We will miss her and her prayers on our behalf. Blessed be her memory.
