Marie Alfreda Mikkelson, 95, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born May 30, 1916, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Julius and Alfreda (Stenberg) Sholberg. Her family moved to Elizabeth in 1918, where she attended school. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1934. Marie worked as an operator for Northwestern Bell in Fergus Falls. On September 18, 1938, she married Harold Mikkelson in Elizabeth. The couple lived in St. Cloud, Breckenridge, and then Fergus Falls. She was employed as a seamstress at Rosenblatts until 1974. Marie has been one of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1965. She devoted her life to her faith and her family. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, sewing, and fishing. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold; a sister, Caroline, at age 10; and a brother, Julian. Survivors include two daughters: Marilyn Linski of Huachuca City, Arizona, and Phyllis (Dale) Gilbertson of Erhard; two sons: Wayne (Sharon) Mikkelson of Bandera, Texas, and Mark (Ivy) Mikkelson of Fergus Falls; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
