Marie R. (Mrs. Dohney) Anderson, 83, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. She was born July 4, 1928, in Haw River, North Carolina, the daughter of Clarence and Nonie (Phillips) Roach. Marie received her education in Haw River. She met her husband, Dohney, while he was in the military stationed at Camp Butler in North Carolina. They were married August 12, 1946, in Danville, Virginia, and made their home in Fergus Falls. Through the years, Marie was employed at the Skyline Cafe, Ranch House, Medallion Kitchens, D.B. Rosenblatts, and Big Chief Cafe. During her lifetime she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, bowling, bingo, playing cards, working puzzles, watching game shows, and being outdoors. Her favorite pastime was watching baseball, and she was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Twins. Embracing special moments with her family was her greatest joy of all. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Dohney, in 2008; and sisters Bessie Heaton, Beatrice Deese, Lunette Pruitt, Maggie Warren, Kathleen Smith and Helen Murphy. Survivors include her four children: Larry (Marcy) Anderson, Vicky Anderson (Brian Mensinger), and David (Bethany) Anderson all of Fergus Falls, and Terry (Jim) Vandenberg of Brownsville, Texas; five grandchildren: Michelle, Chas, Justin, Jennifer, and Dylan; four great-grandchildren: Lucy, Grace, Amber and Madison; brother, Carl Roach of Graham, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment at Stavanger Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
