Margaret Lucille Gutzmer, 80, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Homestead Pioneer Cottage in Fergus Falls.
Margaret was born on November 2, 1938 in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Boeder) Wahl. She grew up in Fergus Falls and attended District 203 country school.
She married Gordon Gutzmer at First United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls. Through the years, Margaret worked various jobs, including Skogmos Café, at the hospital as a nurse’s assistant, Travel Host, Holiday Inn, Motel 7 and AmericInn Hotel, retiring several years ago.
In her earlier years she was a Campfire leader. She enjoyed trips to the casino, fishing, sitting in the hot tub and basking in the warmth of the sunshine, as she was always cold. She also loved the time she spent caring for animals, which began at the young age of 5, when she had her own cow to care for and raise. She cherished any opportunity to be with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three children, who died in infancy and her brother, David Wahl.
Survivors include her children, Lisa (Steve) Hagen of Fergus Falls, Jon Gutzmer of Fergus Falls, Jobie Gutzmer of Goodridge; grandchildren, Amy (Brin) Forster, Matthew and Dylan Umlauf; great-grandchildren, Bryton and Breyer Forster, Keisy Umlauf; brother, Arlen (Ardy) Wahl of Fergus Falls and sister, Carol (Bill) Taylor of Fergus Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4 -6 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls.
