Marcus Ivan Erlandson, 79, a resident of rural Fergus Falls, died Monday, January 28, 2019, at Lake Region Healthcare.
The son of Edwin W. and Ruth (Haarstad) Erlandson, he was born April 16, 1939, in his family’s two-room house in Aastad Township in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was baptized, confirmed, and a life member at Aastad Lutheran Church.
Marcus attended rural School District #157 and Morris Ag School graduating in 1957. He joined the Elbow Lake Army Reserves in 1956 and became active in April 1957. Marcus was stationed at Fort Leonardwood where he performed his basic, advanced infantry and machine gunner training. He was honorably discharged in October, 1957.
He then returned to the family farm and took over the operations in January 1958 with his brothers Arlan and Russell. In February 1969 he married Kaären Kaltvedt. He remained on the family farm the rest of his life.
Marcus was a member of the Wendell Co-op and the local D.A.V. Post 25. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being able to continually connect to farming through the families of Kurt Erlandson and Frank Haataja. They were instrumental in making day to day activities possible.
Preceding him in death by his parents and brother, Gary.
Survivors include sons, Troy (Jill) Erlandson of Brandon, SD, Shawn (Jolene) Erlandson of Eureka, MO, and Scott (Laura) Erlandson of Harker Heights, TX; grandchildren, Kaylynn, April, Sean, Laura, Emilee, Kristopher, Kirsten and Rebecca, along with several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Arlan and Russell (Carol); sisters-in-law, Barbara and Marlys and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the Aastad Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or LB Hospice.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at Aastad Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls, MN.
