Mabel Honrud, a lifelong resident of Rothsay, passed peacefully away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 96 years. She was born September 7, 1915, in Tanberg Township, rural Rothsay, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Hagen) Lillevold. She was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay, where she remained a lifelong member. On November 21, 1942, she married Alfred Honrud at the Hamar Parsonage. They farmed in Oscar Township until moving into the city of Rothsay in 1970. Mabel was an avid crafter and was involved with a craft store in Fergus Falls, and with a crafting group made up of ladies throughout the upper Minnesota region. She was best known for her cornhusk dolls. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, loved music and composing poems. Mabel enjoyed a trip to Norway with her daughter Rose in 1993. She was an active member of Ladies Aid and circles at Hamar. Mabel enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed people, everyone was her friend. She entered the nursing home in 1997. Preceding her in death were her husband, Alfred, on January 24, 1997;three brothers, John Lillevold, Henry Lillevold and Edwin Lillevold; five sisters, Amelia Johnson, Isabella Rian, Cora Fosse, Ella Grunewald, and Alice Baanna; and a grandson, Troy. She was the last member of her family to pass away. Survivors include her children: Arvid (Connie) Honrud of Farmington, DuWayne (Bev) Honrud of Rothsay, Donald (Sandra) Honrud of Battle Lake, and Rose (Randy) Mattson of Chaska; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family prefers memorials to New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay, or Rothsay PARTNERS.
