Lyle M. Uhlig, 79, of Erhard, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, surrounded by his family. Lyle Milton Uhlig was born on December 12, 1931 to Gust and Clara (Fenske) Uhlig in Elizabeth Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. Following his schooling he stayed on and near the family farm, farming with his father and his brother Wally. On July 5, 1952, Lyle married Joyce Stender at the St. John parsonage. From this marriage, Lyle was the proud father of three children, Bonnie, Steven, and Connie. In 1960 Lyle moved the family to their rural Erhard farm, where he spent the rest of his life farming, milking cows, grading and snowplowing township roads, driving milk truck, and working with Marty Electric as an electrician. Lyle served on the Erhard Township Board and the St. John Lutheran Church Board. Preceding him in death were his son, Steven Leroy Uhlig, his parents, Gust and Clara Uhlig, his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mathilda Stender, his brother, Wally Uhlig, his sister-in-law, Judy Uhlig, and his grandson, Dustin Hart. Lyle is survived by his wife, Joyce, of nearly 59 years, two daughters, Bonnie (Kirby) Norman of Erhard, and Connie (Todd) King of Underwood; two grandsons, Kyle Norman and Cody (Pam) Norman, both of Fargo, ND; a granddaughter, Daceyn Wentler (Justin Stock) of Underwood, two great-grandchildren, Tahren Steven (Hart) Petersen of Rothsay, and Paige Norman of Fargo, ND; a brother, Alvin Uhlig of Erhard; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special family member of nearly 12 years, Paul (Kathy) Kohl of Cedar, MN, Dustin’s heart recipient. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
