Lucille Helen (Loop) Harworth of Fergus Falls, Minnesota made her journey to Heaven on September 14, 2024, at the age of 102 at Broen Home. She was born December 15, 1921, in Star Lake Township, Ottertail County, Minnesota to Lucian and Cora (Noble) Loop.
On November 28, 1939, she married Edwin Harworth at Saint John Lutheran Church parsonage in Elizabeth, MN. To this marriage two children were born. They lived and worked for various area farmers before moving to Fergus Falls and enjoyed dancing and dinner parties. Lucy loved to bake her own bread and cooked for many farm crews in their early life together.
Lucille’s mother passed away when she was very young and was raised and cared for by her father and older siblings. She learned that family and working hard were important. Lucille enjoyed work and didn’t want her hands to be idle. Her enjoyment of work was evident in the cleaning work for local families and businesses and working at food concessions. Sewing mission quilts, embroidering dish towels and many quilt blocks for great great grandchildren’s baby quilts were a few ways she kept her hands busy. Being generous of herself, she did volunteer work including at Broen Home where she lived in her last years. She also supported her children as a 4-H leader for many years and was involved with numerous organizations in the area. Though, she may be best remembered for her many handwritten letters, phone calls and visits to check in with others! After her son was missing and later declared dead in the Vietnam War, she was granted Gold Star Mother, a distinction that showed the ultimate sacrifice to our country.
Lucy enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday milestone in 2021 with a card shower. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions at that time, a party could not be planned. Many relatives, friends and fellow members from Trinity Lutheran Church sent cards.
Lucille is survived by daughter Janice (Eugene) Harthun; granddaughters Melinda (Dave) Barrett, Michelle (Scott) Sprecher and Lisa (Jeff) Jacobson; grandsons Scott Harworth and Troy (Sonia) Harworth and many great and great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and son Elroy. Also preceding her were all her siblings and their spouses including brothers William, Lester, Alvin and sisters Viva, Mabel, Gloria and Alice Mae. Also, sisters-in-law Lydia, Emma and Martha and their spouses.
Per her wishes a private funeral and burial will be held. Interment will be at Knollwood Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN.
Thank you to the staff from Hospice by Knute Nelson and the LB Broen Home for the wonderful care.
