Lucile E. Larson, 92, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Woodland Lodge, Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was born April 26, 1922, in Oakes, ND, the daughter of Walter and Louise (Nielsen) Shafer. She attended Riverdale School and graduated from Oakes State High School in 1940. Lucile started her teacher’s training at Moorhead State Teachers College and finished her training at North Dakota State Normal and Industrial School, in Ellendale, ND, graduating in 1941 with a teaching certificate.
On October 17, 1941, she married Alvin O. Larson in Oakes, ND. She taught country school for almost one year before traveling with Alvin, while he was serving in the Signal Corps and later the US Navy. In 1946, they moved back to Oakes and she partnered with her husband in ownership of Larson Electric and Sears for 68 years. She also worked as a waitress at Don and Betty’s Café.
Lucile was a member of Oakes United Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Society, Rebekah Lodge and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and reading.
Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Ivan and Stanley Shafer.
Survivors include her husband Alvin of Fergus Falls, MN; children, Russell “Russ” (Georgia) of Kalispell, MT, Lawrence “Larry” (Pam) of Fergus Falls, MN, Ronald “Ron” (Barb) of Alexandria, MN, and Shirley (Rick) Snyder of Fairmount, ND; grandchildren, Michael Larson, Kristine (Justin) Ertelt, Ryan (Amber) Larson and Ross (Alissa) Larson; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Josiah Ertelt, and Gavin, Lydia and Haley Larson.
