Lowell Wasmuth, 95, of Rothsay, MN passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at LB Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Lowell Ardell Wasmuth was born May 17, 1928 to John “Jack” and Dora (Emblom) Wasmuth on their rural Rothsay farm in Akron Township.
He attended school in Rothsay where he graduated in 1945. After graduation, he joined the US Army and served in Brookings, SD. While there he attended South Dakota State University. Upon discharge from the Army, he attended North Dakota State University.
On June 10, 1951, Lowell married Marge Hovland. They lived and farmed west of Rothsay for many years. They were married for 70 years, until Marge’s death in September 2021. Together they raised five children.
Lowell and Marge enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona and did so for 26 years. Lowell began playing tennis while in Arizona and looked forward to every match and tournament, playing into his early 90’s. He loved to fish and would throw out a line any chance he could. There was always a smile when he went fishing or talked fishing.
Most importantly, Lowell loved the Lord and lived his life to serve and claim God’s promises. Reading and studying God’s Word was a very important part of his daily life. He strongly desired for all to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
Lowell is survived by his five children, Bruce (Priscilla) Wasmuth, David Wasmuth, Mary (Scott) Handy, Patti Wasmuth, and Julie (Bob) Baumgardner; four grandchildren, Erin (Steve) Wirtz, Jenny (Mark) Bednar, Tyler Baumgardner, and Ryan Baumgardner; five great-grandchildren, Lucy, Sadie, and Jude Wirtz and Charlie and Henry Bednar.
Preceding Lowell in death were his wife, Marge; parents, John “Jack” and Dora Wasmuth, and sister, Jean Western.
The family requests that memorials be made to Samaritan’s Purse or The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and will resume one-hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023 at Olson Funeral Home Chapel in Fergus Falls.
Clergy: Pastor Eric Uggerud
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
