Louis B. Obowa

April 29, 1918 — January 26, 2015

Louis B. Obowa, 96, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at Woodland Lodge in Fergus Falls.

He was born April 29, 1918 to John and Pauline (Gebaurer) Obowa in Haycreek, ND and baptized on May 2, 1918 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bismarck, ND. He attended country schools in Bismarck, ND and Frazee, MN. In 1926 the family moved to Buse Township where he attended District 46 country school and became a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. His father passed away when he was 14 years old, so his mother and two older brothers, with his help proceeded to operate the farm.

Louis attended University Farm School in St. Paul and graduated in 1941. He was instrumental in building his own snowplow and plowed open many of the blocked roads in Buse, Orwell and surrounding townships. Louis also did corn picking and shelling throughout the Fergus Falls area. He was good at repairing his machinery and making improvements on the new machinery he bought.

On January 2, 1952 he was united in marriage to Virginia Esther Zamani at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. When they moved to Carlisle Township, he became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Foxhome. Louis was instrumental in working on the new church when it was built in 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Society and Knights of Columbus. The church in Foxhome was closed on July 10, 1993 and he again became a member of OLV.

Louis enjoyed dancing, square dancing and especially working in his shop. He could build, rebuild or repair almost anything.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Frank and Joe; sisters, Caroline and Rosalie.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Fergus Falls; three sons, Bernard (Laurel) Obowa of Fergus Falls, Denis Obowa of Fergus Falls, James Obowa of Lino Lakes; grandson, Thomas (Christy) Obowa of Fergus Falls; great-granddaughter, Isabelle; step great-grandchildren, AnnaMarie and Zachary Hanson; and sister, Gertrude Obowa.
