Louis S. Karsnia, 39, of Underwood, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at his home.
Louis was born in Fergus Falls to Michael and Deborah (Fritz) Karsnia on August 2, 1979. He attended school in Fergus Falls, first at Our Lady of Victory during his elementary years and then Fergus Falls Senior High School, graduating in 1998. He went to NDSCS in Wahpeton, earning his AA degree in Auto Body, graduating in 2000.
Louis married Jessica Thom on July 9, 2003 in Milbank, SD. They have two sons, Zander and Landon.
He was a 19D Cavalry Scout in the MN Army National Guard for 23 years, serving in Bosnia September 2003 to February 2004 and Iraq March 2006 to January 2007. He received the Bronze Star and numerous other achievement medals. He has been the owner of Surething Software since 2002 and also the Gambling Manager for the VFW Post #612 for many years.
He was a member of the Underwood American Legion Post #489, Allied Charities of MN, Fergus Falls Hockey Association, and the MN Warriors Hockey Team, and a lifetime member of the Fergus Falls VFW Post #612. Louis spent many hours helping to establish the Veterans Park Memorial and was very proud of the progress.
Louis had many hobbies, including 4-wheeling, coaching Hockey for many years, hunting, fishing, camping, hockey referee, figure skating, soccer, and football. He was a two-time winner of the Splintered Croquet Tournament.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Karsnia; grandfather, Harl Hockeborn; grandmother, Marlene Hockeborn; paternal grandparents, Frank and Kathryn Karsnia, and mother-in-law, Elise Carlson.
Louis is survived by his wife, Jessica Karsnia of Underwood; sons, Zander and Landon Karsnia of Underwood; mother, Deb Karsnia of Erhard; brother, Fritz (Sarah) Karsnia of Fergus Falls; his in-laws, Ron and Julie Thom; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and numerous friends.
