Lottie Kollar

September 29, 1927 — August 31, 2010

Lottie Vivian Kollar, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at the Pioneer Cottages in Fergus Falls. She was born September 29, 1927, in Columbus, North Dakota, the daughter of Christian and Anna (Ruud) Runningen.  She attended school in Columbus, and later Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, until she had to leave to do the cooking at home for the farm. She was also employed at the restaurant in Pelican Rapids. On February 9, 1945, she married Ernest P. Kollar in Fergus Falls. Following their marriage she was a full time housewife, raising their family. After her children were grown, she worked as a clerk for four years at a clothing and shoe store in Perham. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Casselton, ND and Perham, MN. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church, on bowling leagues, and a member of a birthday club. Lottie was forever busy, cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing, quilting, crafting, gardening, and making sure we always had enough. Alzheimers may have taken her away from us well before we were ready, but, when visiting her there’d be a smile or a great “one liner” that assured us Mom was still with us all. She taught us Family is to be cherished, and when together we laugh, cry, and totally enjoy our moments. Mom loved to sing, listen to Charlie Pride, and dance in the kitchen. She knew the words to an old song, “Remember Me”. We will always keep Mom in our hearts and “Remember You”. Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters: Selma, Annette, and Clara; her brothers: Marvin, Donald, and Oliver; her son-in-law, Kit Schwartzman; and her grandson, Daryn Paul Schuelke. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Kollar of Fergus Falls; her children: LaVonne (Jerome) Schuelke of Boyd, MN, Mike (Lori) Kollar of Canby, MN, Cynde Kollar Schwartzman of San Antonio, TX, Scott Kollar (Carol Henry) of Bemidji, MN, and Todd (Cheri) Kollar of San Antonio, TX; 13 grandchildren: J. J., Tami, and Rebecca Schuelke, Bianca Benoit, Adam Nielson, Kristy Soular, Chris, Ben, Philip, Jackie and Rachel Kollar, and Jamey and Jason Kollar; seven great-grandchildren: Kelsi, Kylie, and Keaton Schuelke, Jackson and Madeline Benoit, and Makenna and Mya Soular; her siblings: Clifford Runningen of Pelican Rapids, and Christian Runningen Jr. of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
