Lorraine Shol

Lorraine Shol, 88, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.  Lorraine was born on December 3, 1922 in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Ervin and Emma (Peterson) Long.  Lorraine attended school in Fergus Falls.  After school she became employed at Fairmount Creamery in Fairmount, ND.  She then moved to Minneapolis, where she was employed in a factory that made ammunition boxes during the war.  After the war was over she then moved back to Fergus Falls, where she met Floyd Shol of Friberg Township.  On April 22, 1946 they were married in Sisseton, SD.   The couple farmed the home place for a number of years, then moved to Heilberger Lake where they operated a resort and tavern. Their annual Turtle Fry was a feast everyone looked forward to and enjoyed so much! Through the years she was employed at Park Region Bakery and then Fergus Falls Senior High School as a cook and baker until her retirement. In her younger years, she loved to roller skate and dance. After her retirement she loved to cook and bake for her children and grandchildren, read, feed and watch the birds with Floyd, watch her baby kitties and baby her precious Boston Terriers, Barbie and Cocoa. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Floyd, granddaughter, Debbie Shulstad; son-in-law, Larry Samuelson and a brother, Robert Long. Survivors include five daughters, Sandy (Delayne) Drechsel of Erhard, Nancy (Allen) Kjono of Elizabeth, Patsy (Norman) Pierce of Fergus Falls, Susan (Gary) Samuelson of Underwood, Cindy (Glen) Nickelson of Fergus Falls; two sons, Bruce Shol and Donnie Shol of Erhard; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Mortenson of Wahpeton; two brothers, Ervin (Vivian) Long of Erhard and Norman (Shirley) Long of Erhard; three sisters-in-law, Doris Long of Minneapolis, Pearl Shol of Fergus Falls, Hazel Magdich of Fergus Falls and a brother-in-law, Ben Bachmeier of Fergus Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
