Lorraine Marion Ostlund, 94, of Fergus Falls died Friday, July 17, 2015 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
The day of January 27, 1921, was a special day in the home of Fred and Anna (Steiner) Carlsrud, for on that day Lorraine Marion was born. She was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church of Rothsay, attended School District # 24 in Wilkin County and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1939. Lorraine then attended the Business College of Fergus Falls was employed with Wilkin County in the Clerk of Court office. She also worked briefly at the Farmers State Bank of Rothsay.
On April 7, 1942, she married Vernon Ostlund in Tacoma, Washington, where he was stationed in the US Army. The couple then moved to Oklahoma City where she worked in an air depot as a secretary. They then moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where she worked for a local bank. When Vernon was transferred overseas, Lorraine returned to Rothsay and was employed by the Farmers State bank for 31 years retiring in 1984. After the war, Vernon returned to Rothsay and the couple owned and operated Ostlund’s Grocery Store for 36 years.
The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in 2000. They were the parents of one daughter, Patricia Ann, Mrs. Ronald Fosse, who died in 1974 at the age of 23 as the result of an auto accident.
She was a lifelong member of Hamar Lutheran Church, Circle and Ladies Aid, American Legion Post # 376 and the Senior Citizens Center of Rothsay.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Anna Carlsrud; her husband, Vernon; daughter, Patricia and brothers-in-law, Leon, William, Norman, Roald and Reuben Ostlund; sisters-in-law, Laura Loften, Minnie Ohe, Olga Anderson and Eunice Sundby.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Ronald Fosse of Fargo; brother-in-law, Ole (Doris) Ostlund of Barnesville and sister-in-law, Marilyn Ostlund of Fergus Falls, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015 at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay, MN
