Lorraine Ann Newton

Lorraine Ann Newton, 84, of rural Carlisle, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

She was born March 14, 1932, at home in Tordenskjold Township, rural Dalton, MN the daughter of Tilford and Amanda (Lien) Nelson. She grew up in rural Dalton, attending country school at District #20. She was baptized/confirmed at Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church. She attended high school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1950.

On December 2, 1950, Lorraine married Dean Newton at Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, rural Dalton. They made their home in the area, working for area farmers. In 1956 they moved to their home in rural Carlisle, where she was a homemaker, assisting her husband on their dairy farm and raising their family.

Lorraine was a long-time member of Hedemarken Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in Ladies Aid and Circle. She was also a member of the Carlisle Homemakers group for many years.

She enjoyed gardening, and growing beautiful flowers in her flower beds, bird watching, and in the earlier years assisting her children with their 4H projects. She found a lot of joy watching her children’s and especially her grandchildren’s many music and sports activities. Most recently visits from her great-grandchildren brought much joy.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and brothers and sister-in-law Lee and Sylvia Newton, Kenneth Haugan, and Keith Newton.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Dean Newton of rural Carlisle; her children, Stan (Julie) Newton of Elizabeth, Mark (Margene) Newton of rural Carlisle, and Gail (Todd) Heintzman of Aberdeen SD; seven grandchildren: Emma Newton, Jason (Korene) Newton, Jared (Brenda) Newton, Amy (Bryan) Maurer, Sam Heintzman, Jon Heintzman, and Kate Heintzman; five great-grandchildren: Calissa and Alaina Newton, Lilah and Case Newton, and Hannah Maurer; two brothers, LeRoy (Mary Jean) Nelson, and Eldon (Karen) Nelson; sister-in-law, Joyce Haugan; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with a public prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Service: 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2017, at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel
Clergy: Chaplain David Strom
Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens in Fergus Falls.
Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.
