Lorraine Adelle Mahler, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Pioneer Senior Cottages in Fergus Falls under hospice care. She was born July 30, 1924, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of John K. and Elvera (Allen) Johnson. She was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. Julius Quello, and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. Muus. She attended school at Lincoln grade school and Washington High School. Lorraine moved to Seattle, Washington, in 1942 to be with her sister and two brothers. After working in sales and at the Pacific Telephone Company, she returned to Minnesota in 1944 upon the death of her father. On June 12, 1944, she was united in marriage to Wesley Dunwell. They had three children. She lived on the east coast for a short time to be with her husband, where she was employed at a torpedo plant in Alexandria, VA. After his discharge they returned to Fergus Falls from Renville, and her husband was employed at her family's clothing store. She was employed at the S & L Department Store. On July 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Richard Mahler. She was employed at Normandy Cafe` for four years, at which time she and her husband purchased the cafe`. He passed away in July of 1975. She sold the cafe` after a year. In 1978 she repurchased the cafe` and sold it in 1982. Before she retired she was a cook at Skelly's, Big Chief, and The Iron Kettle. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary since 1949. Lorraine was a loving mother, wife, grandma and great-grandma, who adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She liked to bowl, crochet, entertain and cook. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Richard; two brothers: Gene and Arly Johnson; two sisters: Claire Graham and Jeraldine Erickson; a son, Gene Dunwell; and a grandson, Zach Josephs. Survivors include her children: Pam (Rick) Carlson of Fergus Falls, and John (Mary) Dunwell of Pelican Rapids; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews, including special nieces and nephew: Geri Graham and Nancy Biele and David (Betty) Graham; and two sisters-in-law: Audrey Johnson and Beryl Johnson. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
