Lorna Martha Miller, 86, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at her home after a short struggle with cancer. She was born August 11, 1920, at the family farm north of Fergus Falls, the daughter of William and Hulda (Krause) Duenow. She was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Lutheran Church (Immanuel Lutheran). She grew up and attended country school through the eighth grade in Friberg Township, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1938. She attended Northwestern College in Fergus Falls studying accounting and typing. On November 12, 1938, she married William E. "Bill" Miller of Fergus Falls. The couple moved to St. Paul, MN where Mr. Miller was a page for the legislature. They returned to the Fergus Falls area in the summer of 1939. Her husband was stricken with Polio in November of 1939. In 1940 she began working for the S & L Department Store as a cashier. She moved with her husband to Detroit Lakes in 1945, where she worked in the office of the Detroit Lakes Tribune. The couple moved back to Fergus Falls in 1947 and she began working for the local Propane Gas Company as an office clerk. In 1958 she accepted employment at Lake Region Hospital as an accounts clerk until 1970 when she became Accounting Supervisor for the City of Fergus Falls. She retired in 1985. Lorna enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends. She especially enjoyed the family cabin at Otter Tail Lake and her pets. Preceding her in death were her husband, Bill; her parents, William and Hulda Duenow; her nephew, Gerald Knapp; and her brother-in-law, C. Harry Knapp. Survivors include a daughter, Cathleen (Steve) Berglund of Otter Tail Lake; a son, Charles (Susan Schmidt) Miller of Casper, WY; three grandsons: Kevin Berglund and Tyler Berglund, both of Oakland, CA, and Noah (Cindy) Miller of Denver, CO; two granddaughters: McKenzie (Tony) Wachlarowicz of Minneapolis, and Meadow (James) Forget of Moses Lake, WA; six great-grandsons: Christian and Tyler Alexander and Gerald Talbot; John and Matthew Forget, and Jonathan Sovine; and a sister, Gertrude T. Knapp of Fergus Falls. Memorials to Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls are preferred. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
