Loretta Anderson

Loretta Leona Anderson, 91, a resident of Underwood, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake.  Loretta was born on October 9, 1916 in Westbrook, MN. She was one of four children of William and Martha (Gertner) Schmalz. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. She grew up and attended school in District 59. On September 3, 1940, she married Willie A. Anderson.   The couple farmed in the Storden, Graceville and Parkers Prairie areas. In 1965 they moved to Dalton and later purchased and together operated the Dalton Meat Locker plant until their retirement. After Willie’s passing, she moved to Jefferson, OR. In October 2007 she returned to the Underwood area to live. She was a member of Our Saviors Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, who died February 10, 1989 and two daughters, Janice and Judith; two brothers, Art and Harold Schmalz and a grandson, Michael Anderson. Survivors include three sons, Alfred (Jana) Anderson of Shelbyville, TN, Steven (Sharen) Anderson of Dalton, Scott (Patti) Anderson of Ogema; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene (Bud) Nelson of Westbrook, MN; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Schmalz of Storden.
